Do you know about Expectorant Herbs?! These herbs help move foreign particles up and out of the lungs by helping the body produce mucus more effectively and sometimes thinning mucus that is too thick.
Here are some herbs and essential oils that fall into that category:
Herbs: Inula Helenium (Elecampane), Grindelia spp. (Gum weed), Balsamorhiza Sagittata (Balsam root), Populus spp. (Poplar) bud, Marrubium Vulgare (Horehound), Verbascum thapsus (Mullein)
Essential Oils: Basil, Benzoin, Bergamot, Cedarwood, Fennel, Hyssop, Marjoram, Peppermint, Sandalwood, Myrrh
Not sure how to use these? Here’s a recipe that incorporates a couple of these herbs to help with your respiratory health.
Deep Breath Oil:
- 10 drops Peppermint Oil
- 10 drops Eucalyptus Oil
- 10 drops Rosemary Oil
- 5 drops Tea Tree Oil
- 5 drops Thyme Oil
5 – 10 drops of this can be added to a humidifier, diffuser, spray bottle with water, steam inhalation, or added to a tablespoon of carrier oil and rubbed on the chest and back. Do not take this orally.
